Properties and Charges

The Chester Land Trust is responsible for the care and maintenance of the following parcels:

Duck Pond Preserve
Burr Brook Preserve
Bob Rayner & Family Land Preserve
Chester Creek Preserves
Carini and Scudder Preserves
The Pines and Liberty Ridge Easements
Waterhouse Brook Preserve


Public access is not permitted on the easements or preserves except for the Rayner, Carini and Scudder Preserves. Members of the Trust invite Chester residents to volunteer to be stewards to help monitor and protect these wonderful, valuable open spaces for our community

Spring Clean-up at the Carini Preserve

Duck Pond Preserve - 6.2 acres extensive wetlands...valuable habitat for muskrat, geese, beaver, ducks and fish varieties.

Bob Rayner & Family Land Preserve - over 2 acres off Rt 148 close to Town. This lovely parcel abutts the south fork of the Pattaconk Brook. 

Burr Brook Preserve - small parcel and a major tributary to the Pattaconk Brook.

Chester Creek Preserves - two parcels of marsh land adjacent to the tidal Chester Creek comprising over 35 acres..This unique fresh water marsh in an important area for migrating waterfowl.

Carini & Scudder Preserves - Two parcels of over 6.5 acres. Visitors are encouraged to use these areas for picnicking and access to Chester Creek. Both Preserves are located off Water Street and Rt 148.

The Pines and Liberty Ridge Easements - Two easements...The Pines Easement consists of 4 acres of rolling terrain with a marshy wet watercourse that flows to Cedar Swamp. The Liberty Ridge Easement is located between Brook Lane and Liberty Street. Both Easements are not open to the Public.

Waterhouse Brook Preserve - comprised of 2.2 acres on the north side of Dock Road. This is a tidal water plain important to migrating
waterfowl as well as spawning area for several species of fish.
Chester Elementary 6th Graders visit The Chester Land Trust Carini Preserve to learn about invasive and native plants.
