First Quarterly Email Newsletter

Freedom Trail Plaque installed
at the Motley Preserve

On October 6th, 2019, the Constance Baker Motley Preserve located at 100 Cedar Lake Rd was officially inducted in the CT Freedom Trail. During that public ceremony the State Historic Preservation Office presented the Chester Land Trust with a bronze plaque documenting this unique Heritage Site. 

On June 29th, 2020, the plaque was officially installed under the Judge Motley storyboard.  Extensive search for the best natural granite stone was conducted by CLT president Bill Myers and discovered in the nearby woods. A local professional stone mason, Dan LaPlace offered his services free of charge to transport the stone, drill out the stone and set the plaque in place with proper holding anchors.  The Trustees of the Chester Land Trust express their deep appreciation to Dan for his generous donations of his time and skills to install this plaque.

Welcome!  The Trustees of the Chester Land Trust (CLT) welcome you to our first email newsletter. We are an all volunteer nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that currently owns 94 acres of protected land in Chester, with another 18 acres protected by Conservation Easements.

Despite a very difficult year due to Covid-19 affecting all of our daily lives, CLT has been very busy working to maintain and protect our local natural resources, open spaces, and unique environment. Below are some of our 2020 updates. 

We sincerely thank everyone who has supported the mission and goals, and extend a warm welcome to those of you who would like to join us in our efforts.

New Picnic Table at Carini Preserve
The Chester Land Trust offers the community a special place to practice social distancing. The Carini Preserve on Water St has a new eight foot picnic table for public enjoyment. Come to the preserve to relax, watch birds, fish and be sure to pack a picnic treat. The Chester Land Trust expresses their appreciation to Robert Muldoon of Killingworth (former Chester resident) for donating the picnic table for everyone to enjoy.
